Not only will this help extend the life of your hoses, but it will help to keep the water pips that feed your outside faucets from freezing and bursting. If you can, be sure to shut off the water supply to your outdoor faucets and then drain the water from the faucet.
If your outside water faucet is warn or not working properly consider replacing it with a frost free spigot (typical cost $25 to $50 over standard spigots). Of course you may need a plumber for this as well.
