Morris Township Mayor Nace would like to get permission from the state to install traffic cameras at intersections across Morris Township. The claim is that we have a problem with people running stop signs and red traffic lights.
The reality of things is that installing such traffic cameras will allow which ever government agency has access to them to monitor the coming and going of the users of these streets. Now this sounds innocent enough but do we really want our government monitoring us and our every move? Do we really have such a traffic problem that we need to give up civil liberties? Isn’t this a issue that we have police for?? The neighbors complain about the speed of traffic on Old Glen Road, and we see police on it once in a while but never see the Morris Township police giving tickets to speeders on it.

I think that you are right to question whether or not the cameras should be put up if the law enforcement agencies have not first made a major attempt at controling traffic via police activity. I do not see how the traffic light cameras are going to make speeders more aware of their infringement than police patroling the area would.
An occasional sting in the worst areas will do more for reducing the number that run traffic lights and speed then having cameras will.
