In a article in Sundays Daily Record news paper there were lots of suggestions as to how to deal with New Jersey’s tax and spend problems.
There were lots of suggestions with the over all main points being that the hard choices needed to be made. It is starting to be obvious that many of New Jersey’s politicians are content to do the easy things and forget about the hard things. A case in point is the Morristown New Jersey Mayors obsession with real estate agents putting out open house signs on Sundays. Another example of this problem is the Morristown Mayors willingness to try to enforce immigration laws that only the federal government is supposed to enforce.
If the Morristown NJ Mayor were willing to do the hard things that are needed he would be pushing for 20% + spending cuts rather than asking for further tax increases.
I guess it is more important for the Morristown NJ Mayor not to ruffle feathers since he wants to run for state senate!

Interesting note on Morristown’s mayor and local spending… Unfortunately for the people, politicians aren’t always great economists… which causes them to make decisions and rulings that are less favorable to the average Joe.

This kind of stuff happens all over the nation. It is so sad that politicians seem to always what is best for their campaign and not for the general public. At the same time, the public cannot flame a politician for cutting spending.

I am a firm believer that local elected officials who have any power to raise or lower taxes should be required to take 10 hours a year of economics training every year with a public letter grade given.

James, that will be the day. Raising taxes seems to be the only answer politicians know. What happened to fiscal responsibility?

ok, then the answer is to show up at their public meetings and grill them at every opportunity. Hold the politicos responsible for their tax and spend attitudes. New Jersey needs better service from its government. New Jersey Government needs to learn to do much more with less.
